A committed group of Mamelodi Sundowns supporters have flown to the United States to back their beloved team as they prepare to represent Africa at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. The Brazilians are in Group F, set to face Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense โ€” and their fans are making sure the world feels the Yellow Nation‘s presence.

๐ŸŸก Fans Leading the Way

๐Ÿ”ธ Josi 14 โ€“ A Pretoria-based superfan and one of the masterminds behind this supportersโ€™ journey, Josi 14 revealed that he personally spent around R100,000 on this trip. As soon as it was confirmed over a year ago that Sundowns would participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, he created a WhatsApp group to mobilize fellow Masandawana to invest and prepare. A well-known traveler for the club, Josi 14 previously made headlines when he flew to Japan in 2016 for another Club World Cup. He also urged the team to continue acknowledging fans who use their own money to follow the club beyond South Africaโ€™s borders.

โ€œWe do this because we love the badge. But recognition from the club goes a long way. It inspires others,โ€ Josi 14 shared.

Notably, Mamelodi Sundowns remains one of the few clubs in Africa that actively supports fans financially. In recent examples, the club covered travel costs for over 100 fans to Egypt for the CAF Champions League Final against Pyramids FC, and did the same in October 2016 when they lifted the trophy against Zamalek SC in Alexandria.

๐Ÿ”ธ Thando Ntshumeni โ€“ Based in Polokwane CBD, Thando expressed pure joy at being part of this once-in-a-lifetime journey. โ€œTo see my team play against some of the worldโ€™s best โ€” and to be there in person โ€” is a dream,โ€ he said. Thando spoke of his deep love for Sundowns and what it means to wear the colours on the global stage.

๐Ÿ”ธ Gideon Kuntumi โ€“ A Ghanaian national who spent 12 years in South Africa. Once a Pirates fan, Gideon switched loyalties to Sundowns and has become one of the clubโ€™s most vocal ambassadors.

๐Ÿ”ธ Solly Sthole โ€“ Representing the Diepkloof Branch, Solly is known for his unwavering presence and unmatched passion. His presence in the US adds weight to the supportersโ€™ section.

๐Ÿ”ธ Lesetja Letsoalo โ€“ From Mankweng in Tzaneen, Lesetja continues to fly the Limpopo flag high. Heโ€™s well respected for his consistent support in all major tournaments.

๐Ÿ”ธ Oscar Mabunda โ€“ Hailing from Tzaneen but now based in Johannesburg, Oscar described the trip as a spiritual moment: โ€œItโ€™s not just a game. Itโ€™s a mission.โ€

As Mamelodi Sundowns prepare to face Ulsan HD on 17 June at 00:00 (SA time), followed by Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense, these fans will be in the stands, singing, dancing, and waving the South African flag.

โ€œWe donโ€™t just support the team. We carry their dreams with us,โ€ said Solly at OR Tambo International Airport.

Ngcobo2010 Sharp Eye will be documenting their journey throughout the Club World Cup, showcasing not just the football, but the spirit, stories, and sacrifices behind it.
