Jubilation swept through Gomora United as they were crowned the 2025 ABC Motsepe Promotional Playoff Champions after edging out The Bees from Mpumalanga with a narrow 2-1 victory. The intense clash took place at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, leaving the winners R1.25 million richer and securing their long-awaited promotion to the National First Division (NFD).
Despite the defeat, The Bees didn’t go home empty-handed, pocketing R600,000.00 for their efforts after finishing second in the competition.

Ferreira reflected on the journey that brought them this far:
“When I first arrived at the club, the chairman made it clear; the target was to take this team to the NFD. I told him upfront that I couldn’t do it on my own and would need his full backing. Thankfully, he’s been behind me all the way,” said the experienced coach.
Having coached in the NFD before, Ferreira knows the challenges that await:
“The second round of the NFD is brutal. You might find yourself in the top eight halfway through the season, but just a few bad games and suddenly you’re battling relegation.”
When asked about their recruitment approach ahead of next season, Ferreira was firm:
“We have to be strategic. There’s no point in signing players we don’t actually need or overpaying anyone who hasn’t earned it.”

The club’s Chairman, Joe Seanego, could hardly contain his joy following the club’s promotion:
“I’m over the moon, not just for myself but for everyone who has been part of this journey. Truthfully, I think they are even happier than I am because they don’t carry the daily pressure of running the club like I do,” he chuckled.
He was also quick to express gratitude:
“I have to thank God for this moment. It’s taken a lot of hard work and patience to finally break into the NFD, but we’ve done it.”
Looking ahead to next season, Seanego provided insight into where Gomora United might call home:
“Our hope is that Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa will be available. We’re also planning to renovate Alexandra Stadium so we can play there. I can tell you now, if we manage to play at Alex Stadium, it will be packed to the rafters every game. But Makhulong also offers a fair chance because of its bigger capacity,” he concluded.
With their promotion secured, the hard work begins as Gomora United prepares for life in the fiercely competitive NFD.
