Bafana Bafana Qualify For The 2025 AFCON
After South Sudan defeated Congo 3 goals to 2 on Thursday, November 14, 2024, the South African national soccer team, better known as Bafana Bafana, shocked many by earning a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations without even playing a game.
Bafana Bafana is in Kampala right now for their Group K match against Uganda. In addition to expressing his joy and appreciation to his team for making him proud by earning a spot in the forthcoming African tournament, Bafana coach Hugo Broos gave the media his word that they would not play Uganda lightly.

“First of all I want to congratulate my compatriots Uganda for qualifying for next year (2025 AFCON). Also from our side we are very happy that the qualification is there. It’s a fantastic year for South African football after the bronze medal in the beginning of the year and now the qualification for the next AFCON (Tournament).” said Hugo, who becomes the first South African coach to reach Africa Cup of Nations finals back to back.
He also reiterated that their match against Uganda on Friday, 15 November 2024 will have less stress as both the teams have already qualified. “We still have to win the game (against Uganda) but in at the other side we have self pride; we want to win this game. We want to end as number one in the group meaning we must beat Uganda.” concluded Broos.
Ronwen Williams, Bafana Bafana’s captain and a recent Ballon d’Or Award nominee, has expressed his joy at his colleagues’ qualification for the AFCON next year. The team hopes to finish well in Group K. “First and foremost I’d like to congratulate South Africa as well as Uganda for qualifying but that doesn’t change anything coming into Uganda’s game. We want to finish the year on a positive note and have a wonderful year, a successful year. So, we wanna keep building from that. it’s gonna be a tough one.” said Ronwen.
