The wait is over! The MTN8 is back, and this year, it’s not just about football. It’s a movement. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) in partnership with MTN South Africa has officially launched the 2025 edition of the MTN8 tournament under the electrifying theme ‘Bazok’feela’, bringing together the passion of football and the heartbeat of South African culture.

Now in its 18th year, the MTN8 tournament promises more than just goals and glory. It’s a cultural celebration that taps into music, fashion, lifestyle, and most importantly; the fans who live and breathe the beautiful game. From the stadiums to the streets, MTN8 2025 invites every South African to not just watch, but to feel and live the game.

MTN8 2025: The Fixtures Are Set

The top eight teams from the 2024/2025 Betway Premiership are ready to battle for the coveted MTN8 crown, with four explosive quarter-final clashes lined up:

  • Orlando Pirates (defending champions) vs Polokwane City
  • Mamelodi Sundowns vs Richards Bay FC
  • Stellenbosch FC vs AmaZulu FC
  • Sekhukhune United vs TS Galaxy

The action kicks off this Saturday, 2 August 2025, promising a weekend of drama, flair, and the kind of moments only the ‘Wafa Wafa’ tournament can deliver.

‘Bazok’feela’ – Feel the Game, Live the Culture

More than a slogan, ‘Bazok’feela’ meaning “they’re going to feel you” is a rallying cry for South Africans to express their football identity boldly. Whether it’s the jerseys, the dance moves, the chants, or the debates, MTN8 wants fans to bring their A-game off the pitch too.

“It’s more than just 90 minutes,” said Robyn Lewis, General Manager: Brand & Marketing at MTN South Africa. “It’s about living your truth, feeling every moment, and repping your culture with pride whether in the stands, online, or on the streets.”

Bigger Stakes: R10 Million in Prizes

In line with the high energy of this year’s theme, MTN has raised the stakes for fans. A whopping R10 million in prizes is up for grabs, including:

  • Daily giveaways via MTN App or *dialing 142# after recharging with R20 or more
  • Grocery vouchers, MoMo rewards, home viewing experiences, and suite tickets
  • The ultimate prize, R1 million for the MTN8 Last Fan Standing winner

On the field, the Wafa Wafa champions will also walk away with a R10 million prize, reinforcing the “winner takes all” spirit.

More Than Football: Giving Back Through Goals

Every goal scored during regulation time in this year’s MTN8 will make an impact beyond the scoreboard. Through the MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative, R20,000 per goal will be donated to meaningful community causes.

The MTN Last Legend campaign also returns, blending football history with social upliftment. Former players share their stories while investing their winnings into grassroots sports and charitable projects — a legacy move that keeps the game alive in townships and rural areas.

Spotlight on Media and Legacy

The Last Journalist Standing competition is back, offering a R80,000 prize to the journalist who captures the spirit of MTN8 with passion and insight. It’s MTN’s way of honoring the storytellers who carry the energy of the tournament to fans across platforms.

Additionally, a special MTN8 crest has been introduced and will appear on the jersey sleeves of the reigning champions; a subtle but powerful badge of honor that adds historical weight and pride to each season’s winners.
