Kaizer Chiefs DDC Crowned Champions in Style with 5-0 Rout Over AmaZulu
Kaizer Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team officially celebrated their first-ever DDC league title in dominant fashion on Sunday, 4 May 2025, demolishing AmaZulu 5-0 at Dobsonville Stadium. While they had already secured the title mathematically the previous weekend with a victory over Magesi FC at the same venue, this match was a coronation — and the young Amakhosi ensured they marked the occasion in unforgettable style.
For Chiefs supporters, still reeling from the senior team’s narrow 2-1 Soweto Derby loss to Orlando Pirates on Saturday, this emphatic win came as a timely consolation. The youthful Chiefs side gave the fans a performance to be proud of, displaying flair, hunger, and total dominance from the first whistle.
The match was headlined by the electric performance of Manqoba Ozoemena, who tormented AmaZulu’s defence all afternoon. The 6th minute saw Chiefs get off to a dream start when Ozoemena lashed home a brilliant strike to open the scoring. His speed, pressing, and direct play kept AmaZulu under constant pressure.
In the 23rd minute, Ozoemena struck again — this time capitalizing on a blunder by the Usuthu goalkeeper, who mishandled a routine ball. Ozoemena was alert and pounced, doubling Chiefs’ lead and firmly putting the hosts in control.
Chiefs went into halftime 2-0 up and came back out looking even sharper. In the 59th minute, Ozoemena was brought down inside the box after another dangerous run, and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Naledi Hlongwane stepped up and calmly slotted home the penalty to make it 3-0.
Just seven minutes later, Ozoemena once again forced a mistake at the back, dispossessing the goalkeeper and laying it off for Siphesihle Tati, who coolly finished for Chiefs’ fourth of the afternoon.
AmaZulu’s only real threat came in the 75th minute, when substitute Rocco Rocha struck the post with a thunderous shot after a rare moment of cohesion in attack. But that was as close as they got.
Chiefs weren’t done. In the 81st minute, Neo Bohloko delivered a pinpoint free kick into the box, and Hlongwane rose highest to head in his second goal of the match — a glancing header that sealed the 5-0 rout.
This comprehensive victory not only underlined Kaizer Chiefs DDC’s dominance throughout the season but also reflected the exciting future the club may have with these young stars. Led by Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, the team showed maturity, tactical discipline, and ruthless efficiency — qualities that made them deserving champions in the DDC’s 10th year since inception.
As the celebrations began at Dobsonville, there was a sense of pride and optimism among the Amakhosi faithful. After a decade of near-misses and rebuilding, Chiefs’ youth finally claimed the crown — and they did it with swagger.
