Kaizer Chiefs Launch 2025 Toyota Cup — Durban Set for a Football Spectacle
Johannesburg, South Africa
Kaizer Chiefs have officially launched the much-anticipated 2025 edition of the Toyota Cup, set to take place at Durban’s iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 26 July 2025. The event was unveiled at a packed and newly revamped Naturena, with club officials, legends, and members of the media in attendance.
The Glamour Boys will face Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, in what promises to be a fiery encounter. The two sides have shared an intense rivalry dating back decades, and this clash offers Kotoko a shot at revenge after their defeat to Chiefs in their previous meeting.
Toyota Cup History & Growth
Kaizer Chiefs launched the Toyota Cup last year in Bloemfontein, where they took on Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC at the Toyota Stadium. That match ended in disappointment for Amakhosi, who suffered a 4-0 defeat, but the event proved a resounding success, laying the foundation for what is fast becoming a marquee fixture on the South African football calendar.
This year’s edition heads to Durban, a fitting venue, not only as the manufacturing hub for Toyota South Africa, but also the stadium where Chiefs recently lifted the 2025 Nedbank Cup, adding even more sentiment to the occasion.

Legends Clash: Zuma vs Mashamaite
In keeping with tradition, the Toyota Cup is more than just a football match, it’s a full-day celebration. Football icons will also take to the field in a curtain-raiser clash as the Kaizer Chiefs Legends face the KZN Legends, captained by none other than South African football great, Sibusiso “Rhee” Zuma. The Amakhosi legends will be led by Tefo Mashamaite, with both legends present at the Naturena launch to build excitement for the day.
Last year, Chiefs legends thrilled fans with a victory over Bloemfontein Celtic Legends, and this year promises similar fireworks with legends like Doctor Khumalo, Jabu Mahlangu, Delron Buckley, and more expected to roll back the years.
Jessica Motaung: “Expect Nothing But the Best”
Speaking at the launch, Jessica Motaung, Marketing and Commercial Director of Kaizer Chiefs, expressed her excitement for the upcoming spectacle:
“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil. Asante Kotoko are part of our shared history. The Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and is a celebration of our legacy. Durban is not only the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa but a perfect place to write the next chapter of our history after winning the Nedbank Cup in May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.”
She also confirmed that Chiefs will unveil and wear their brand-new home and away kits, urging supporters to grab their tickets, now available via Open Ticket.
SABC Comes On Board to Broadcast the Event
In another boost for supporters, the SABC will televise the highly anticipated Toyota Cup, ensuring millions of football fans across the continent can enjoy the spectacle from their homes.
Themba Gwejela, SABC Group Executive for Corporate Affairs & Marketing, emphasized the significance of this partnership:
“The SABC is delighted to be partnering with Kaizer Chiefs, one of South Africa’s iconic and legendary football clubs. This broadcast partnership cements the SABC’s position as a broadcaster for the people with a keen interest in prioritizing sport of national interest and supporting local sporting codes.”

Adding to the excitement, Toyota will once again give away a brand-new Toyota Starlet to one lucky fan. Supporters who purchase tickets can SMS their name, surname, and ticket barcode to 48952, follow the prompts, and stand a chance to drive away with the new vehicle — live at halftime!
