Lamontville Golden Arrows Bolster Squad with the Signing of Goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo

Lamontville Golden Arrows have signed of former Royal AM goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo on a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year. The 30-year-old shot-stopper joins Abafana Bes’thende as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.

Ngcobo’s move comes after a difficult period at Royal AM, where off-field issues overshadowed the football. Royal AM has recently faced serious financial troubles with the South African Revenue Service (SARS), leading to the club’s suspension and eventual expulsion from the Premier Soccer League (PSL). With the future of the club uncertain, many players sought stability elsewhere — and for Ngcobo, Golden Arrows offered a new beginning.

The talented goalkeeper won’t be starting from scratch at his new club. He reunites with several of his former teammates, including Thabo Matlaba, Menzi Masuku, Ayabulela Maxwele, Shadrack Kobedi, and Sabelo Sithole, all of whom have also recently made the switch to Durban.

Golden Arrows believe Ngcobo’s experience and leadership at the back will be crucial as they look to build a competitive team. His sharp reflexes, calm presence under pressure, and ability to organize the defense are qualities the coaching staff highly value.

The arrival of Ngcobo and his former Royal AM colleagues is seen as a major boost for Arrows, who are aiming for a stronger finish in this year’s Betway Premiership campaign. With the new signings blending into the squad, fans are hopeful that Abafana Bes’thende can push for a top-eight spot — or even higher. They are currently on position 12 on the log with 26 points.
