Orbit TVET College Earns Historic Promotion to Betway Premiership
Orbit TVET College Football Club has officially secured their place in the Betway Premiership for the 2025/2026 season, becoming the second team to be promoted from the Motsepe Foundation Championship (NFD) after Durban City, who gained automatic promotion earlier this year.
Orbit’s promotion was confirmed following an impressive showing in the 2025 PSL Promotional Play-offs. The North West-based side faced off against Casric Stars and Cape Town City, managing to top the mini-league log with 8 points from 4 matches, courtesy of two wins and two draws. Their consistency under pressure proved enough to secure a historic spot in South Africa’s top-flight football league.
While Orbit celebrates, it’s heartbreak for Cape Town City, who have been relegated to the NFD for the first time in their history. Their demotion leaves Stellenbosch FC as the only team representing the Western Cape in the Betway Premiership next season.
Casric Stars, on the other hand, will have to regroup and return to the drawing board, falling short yet again in their quest for top-flight football.
Orbit TVET College’s promotion is particularly significant for the North West province, which has lacked representation at the highest level of South African football for several seasons. Their arrival in the Betway Premiership brings fresh energy and renewed hope for football fans in the province.
