The Nedbank Cup Is Back
The Nedbank Cup Tournament is a top knockout event, where emerging professional teams compete against experienced powerhouses in their pursuit of triumph, resulting in some Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants being defeated by First Division teams. One of the major teams that succumbed to a supposedly lesser opponent is Kaizer Chiefs, which lost to Milford FC, competing in the National First Division, by 5-4 on penalties on the 25th of February 2024.
South African soccer fans will be thrilled to hear that the Nedbank Cup Tournament is set to begin shortly. The reigning champions of the tournament are Orlando Pirates Football Club which has claimed victory consecutively since they hired the Spanish Guitar Coach Jose Riveiro, who has yet to lose any cup final since joining Pirates (Jose won it in 2023 and 2024 back to back). This marks the Pirates’ fourth title victory since 2008, equaling the tally of Mamelodi Sundowns.
On Thursday, 09 January 2025, the PSL will hold the draw for the last 32 teams of the Nedbank Cup, which will be aired live on Supersport PSL TV channel 202 at 19:00. The 32 teams include 16 PSL teams, 8 National First Division teams, and 8 teams from the SAFA division.
Here is the list of teams that advanced to the 2024-2025 Nedbank Cup Tournament:
