WAFCON Prize Money Doubles as Patrice Motsepe’s CAF Era Transforms African Football

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has once again demonstrated its commitment to elevating African football, announcing a 100% increase in prize money for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The much-anticipated 2024 WAFCON will officially kick off on 5 July 2024 and run until 26 July 2024, hosted in Morocco. The tournament promises not only world-class football but significant financial rewards for participating nations:

This historic increase reflects CAF’s ongoing efforts to close the financial gap between men’s and women’s football and reward the hard work of African teams. Since Dr. Patrice Motsepe took over as CAF President, the organization has made significant strides, securing major sponsorship deals, increasing prize money across competitions like AFCON, CHAN, and now WAFCON, and investing in football development across the continent.

“We want African football to compete with the best in the world. That requires investment, unity, and creating opportunities for our players, especially women,” Motsepe has emphasized on several occasions.

With the increased stakes, fans can expect the 2024 WAFCON to be more competitive than ever as top nations battle for glory and the lucrative financial rewards on offer.

Football fans across Africa and beyond will be able to catch all the action live on these official broadcasters: SuperSport TV, SABC Sport and CAF TV (YouTube and streaming platforms).
